The least expensive player in all of football, is going to be the richest NFL player of all time this time next year. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft makes $800k a year (the minimum salary in the NFL).
Over the last couple of days, two quarterbacks, who most would say are below Purdy in skill level, got massive contract extensions. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa got a 4-year $212.4 million contract extension, that is $53.1 million annually. Most NFL fans would say Tagovailoa is an average NFL quarterback, who has yet to win a playoff game with a very good offense surrounding him, making everybody scratch their heads when they saw the amount of money Miami gave him.
Later that same day, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love got a 4-year $220 million contract extension. This made Love the highest paid QB in NFL history, surpassing Joe Burrow’s contract that he signed last fall. Love, a first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, sat behind Aaron Rodgers for his first three seasons before being named the full time starter. After Green Bay traded their hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, Love was given the opportunity to lead the storied franchise. In his first year starting, he led the Packers to the playoffs and a playoff win over the Cowboys in the wild card. Their Cinderella run ended against Brock Purdy and the 49ers in this year's divisional round.
After Love and Tagovailoa’s extensions, Purdy is next up. Purdy is eligible for a contract extension after this upcoming season. The young gunslinger is going to get PAID. Bill Barnwell of ESPN believes Purdy could command $65 million annually, which could be a 5-year $325 million extension. This would make Purdy not only the highest paid quarterback in NFL history, but the highest paid player in NFL history.
Luckily for Purdy, he does get a raise in this upcoming 2024-25 season. He will be making $1.1 million in guaranteed money. That makes him the 4th cheapest player on the whole entire 49ers roster.
Brock Purdy’s agent Kyle Strongin has already gotten another one of his clients paid this summer. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawerence got $55 million annually (the same as Jordan Love) from Jacksonville this offseason. Strongin will try to negotiate even more for Purdy after this season.
Purdy deserves this extension more than anyone. Last season, Purdy was statistically the best QB in all of football. During this past season, Purdy led the NFL in yards per completion, yards per attempt (YPA), passer rating, and total quarterback rating (QBR). He also made it to the Super Bowl. That's not something a “system quarterback” does.
This time next year, the once cheapest player in all of football, will be the most expensive player in the sport’s history. The last time the 49ers gave money to a quarterback, it was Jimmy Garoppolo, luckily Brock is different. Look to see Purdy out of his Kohl’s cash clothes as soon as possible.

This is so well written! Cracking up at the last sentence. Brock deserves a raise!
Pay Purdy!!!
